Every child deserves a strong start in life.
For many children in South Africa, that start begins with something as simple and as essential as a pair of school shoes.
Next Biosciences is proud to support My Walk Made with Soul, in partnership with Netcare. The initiative transforms recycled medical materials into durable school shoes for underprivileged children, helping them walk to school safely, confidently, and with pride.
From medical care to everyday care
The My Walk Made with Soul shoes begin their journey in hospitals, where uncontaminated medical materials (IV bags, oxygen bags and tubing) are collected. Instead of being discarded, these materials are recycled into high quality school shoes - turning medical waste into something meaningful.
This process supports a circular economy while addressing a very real social need; thousands of children walk long distances to school every day without adequate footwear.
Why school shoes matter
School shoes are more than part of a uniform. They are protection, dignity, and belonging.
Without proper shoes, children are exposed to injury, and exclusion. With the right footwear, children are more likely to attend school consistently and participate fully in school life.
A simple pair of shoes can change how a child walks into a classroom, and how they see themselves.
Our role at Next Biosciences
As part of our commitment to children’s futures, Next Biosciences enables parents to support this initiative during their Netcells registration.
Each donated pair of shoes costs R35
Next Biosciences matches every donation 1:1.
Donations are directed toward providing school shoes to children who need them most.
By protecting one child’s future through stem cell banking, parents can help another child step into theirs.
We are proud to walk this journey together - one child, one pair of shoes, one step at a time.
